HOW IT WORKS

How Iboga Retreats Work

Healing with Iboga is not a single experience. It is a process. It starts before you get there, continues through the ceremonies, and what you do with it afterward is what matters.

At Bwiti Healing Journeys, this work is held within the Bwiti tradition, known as the study of life. Iboga is not something you take and walk away from. It shows you the truth about yourself, how your mind works, and what needs to change.

Most people who come to this have already tried other things. They are not looking for something new to try. They are looking for something that actually works.

You are not left to figure it out on your own. You are guided through preparation, supported during the ceremonies, and worked with afterward so what you see can actually become change in your life.

BWITI CEREMONY & TRADITION

The Tradition that
Creates Transformation

In the Bwiti tradition, Iboga is not just a plant medicine. It is part of a complete system that has
been used for generations to understand life, the mind, and the truth of who you are.

Without this context, people often leave confused or unsure how to apply what they experienced.
Within the Bwiti way, there is direction. You are given teachings that help you understand what is happening and how to work with it.

Ceremony is supported by music, teachings, and direct guidance. The music helps carry
the experience, and the fire talks provide context so you understand what you are moving through
and how to work with it.

You are not left trying to figure it out on your own. You are supported through conversation,
explanation, and real-time guidance so you can understand what you are seeing and how it applies
to your life. This is what makes the work different. It is not just the medicine. It is the way
the medicine is held, explained, and integrated.

You’re supported through conversation, explanation, and real-time guidance so you can understand what you are seeing and how it applies to your life.

THE MEDICINE

Iboga as a
Teacher of Truth

Iboga is a plant medicine from Central West Africa that is used within the Bwiti tradition for deep healing and self-understanding. It is not approached as a substance to take. It is approached as a teacher.

The medicine shows you what is actually going on. It brings forward patterns, thoughts, and behaviors that have been running your life, often without you realizing it. It shows you where you are being honest with yourself and where you are not.

For many people, this is the first time they clearly understand why they have been struggling.
The experience can be intense, but it is also direct. You are not left guessing what it means.

For many people, this work is not about trying something new. It is about reaching a point where nothing else has worked. Iboga is often sought out when people are ready for a deeper level of honesty and change, not just temporary relief.

What makes this work lasting is not just the ceremony. It is what you do with what you see.
That is where integration, guidance, and coaching become essential.

This may be a fit if you:

  • Are ready to take responsibility for your healing
  • Want a grounded and structured approach to Iboga
  • Value authenticity, safety, and real guidance
  • Are open to integration and ongoing support
  • Are willing to face yourself honestly
  • Are committed to creating lasting change in your life

Integration is everything.
Without it, ceremony is just an experience.
With it, it’s transformation.

HOW IBOGA WORKS

Iboga Shows You
What is Actually Going on Beneath the Surface

Iboga Shows You What is Actually Going on Beneath the Surface

Most people come into this work dealing with patterns they cannot seem to change. This can show up as addiction, anxiety, depression, or feeling stuck in the same cycles. What Iboga does is bring those patterns forward in a way that is clear and direct.

It allows you to see how your thoughts, your behaviors, and your choices have been shaping your experience. For many people, this is the first time they fully understand why they feel the way they do and what needs to change.

At a physical level, Iboga has been studied for its impact on the brain, including how it interacts with neurotransmitters and neural pathways related to addiction and mood. This is part of why it has been used in detox settings. What is often missing in those environments is guidance and integration.

Within the Bwiti tradition, the focus is not just on what happens
in the brain. It is on understanding yourself. The medicine shows you what is out of alignment, and the teachings show you how to work with it.

The ceremony opens the door. The guidance helps you understand what you are seeing. Integration is what allows you to apply it in your life. Without that, most people go back to the same patterns. With it, people begin to change the way they think, act, and move through their lives.

Iboga was my last resort. Nothing else worked, and this medicine saved my life.

THE JOURNEY

A Clear Path to Healing

Preparation, ceremony, and integration all matter. This is what allows the experience to lead to real, lasting change.

Preparation

Your journey begins before you arrive. You are guided through preparation to make sure you are ready physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This includes reviewing medications, health conditions, and safety requirements. Iboga has contraindications with certain medications, including SSRIs and benzodiazepines. All participants must disclose this information and work with a doctor if needed before attending. An EKG is also required.

Preparation creates the foundation for a safe and effective experience.

Ceremony

Your journey begins before you arrive. You are guided through preparation to make sure you are ready physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Each retreat includes guided Iboga ceremonies held in the Bwiti way. This is not a situation where you take the medicine and are left to figure it out. You are guided through the entire process so you can understand what is happening and how to work with it.

Before ceremony, there are fire talks where the teachings are shared and you are given context for what you may experience. This gives you something to work with when you are in it, instead of trying to make sense of everything on your own.

During the ceremonies, the medicine is approached with care and intention. Dosing is not one-size-fits-all. It is adjusted based on what you need and how your body responds, so the experience is both effective and safe.

Throughout the process, there is ongoing guidance and support. You are not left alone in it. There is conversation, presence, and real-time direction to help you stay oriented and understand what is coming up.

Afterward, there is time to talk through what you experienced so it does not stay abstract or confusing. You begin to understand what it means and how it applies to your life.

This is where the medicine shows you the truth. The guidance helps you understand it, and what you do with that is what determines whether anything actually changes.

Preparation creates the foundation for a safe and effective experience.

Integration

During the retreat, there is ongoing guidance and conversation to help you understand what the medicine is showing you and how it connects to your life. That support does not stop when you leave. After the retreat, integration continues through follow-up calls where you receive coaching, guidance, and accountability as you begin applying what you experienced.

This is an important part of the process because insight on its own does not create change. What matters is how you work with it afterward. Having continued support helps you stay connected to what came up, understand it more clearly, and make real shifts in how you think and move through your life. Integration is where the real work continues.

Without that kind of integration, many people fall back into the same patterns they were trying to change. With it, you start to build something different. You learn how to work with your thoughts, take responsibility for what you are creating, and move forward in a way that feels more stable and clear.

This is not about having a powerful experience and hoping it sticks. It is about learning how to live differently and having the support to actually do that.
